Don’t be a mooncalf, as W. C. Fields would say – make plans to attend the next Full Moon Pickin’ Party, next Friday, June 25 from 7 to 11 p.m. Friends of Warner Parks is presenting the tenth season of Full Moon Pickin’ Parties, running through October.

These family-friendly fundraisers, held at the Steeplechase Barn at the Equestrian Center in Percy Warner Park, feature Middle Tennessee’s finest bluegrass music under the light of a full moon. Pickers form circles under the trees and around the grounds, performing and jamming while several headliners are featured on stage.

The June 25 lineup will feature music from the Shelby Bottoms String Band, LaTresa & the Signal, and Youngtown Bluegrass Band.

You’ll find food available for purchase, including barbecue from Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Que and Moose Head Kettle Corn, and beverages are included in the ticket price. No coolers are allowed, and no outside alcohol is allowed in the park.

Limited seating is available, so bring a camping/lawn chair or blanket. Leashed dogs are welcome. (They love full moons.)

The event is at the Equestrian Barn at 2500 Old Hickory Blvd. All of the monies raised from this laid-back affair will go directly back into the parks to mitigate flood damage in the Parks and to ensure preservation, protection, funding for educational programs and special projects including camp-outs for inner city kids.
